Beware of these guys. I spent several months working with their installation department figuring out upgrades and enhancements to my home's AV systems. If you don't have a strong understanding of options in the market and how things work, don't rely on them to figure out what is best for you. I found that I had to vet every aspect of their proposals. I found outright mistakes and blatant attempts to sell me considerably more expensive options that would not add to utility, quality or functionality. Then, after finally agreei... read more
Great place, outstanding products – It's really a great place to visit and buy hi-end audio and video devices. They have outstanding products from the best brands. I had fast e-mail answers, technical support for the products I bought and a very kind treatment when I visited the store to pick my things up. Highly recommended
McDonald's has better customer service – I recently bought a new audio system from this retailer including an integrated amp w/DAC, speakers, stands and top of the line cables. They only had 3' optical cables at the time so I settled for it, expecting to come back once they got in a 6 footer. Now, I realize they specialize in high end audio and carry brands like McIntosh that can get into the tens of thousands of dollars per unit, but I honestly feel like I've received better customer service at a McDonalds spending $0.99 on... read more
Great gear, no hassles – After reading the previous reviews, I'm not sure if I got lucky or what. Went in for a 5k stereo system and came out with a kick-butt system. The salesman was extremely knowledgeable and personable. Went to a couple of other high-end shops in the city before this visit and SE was by far the least pretentious (especially compared to Sound by Singer). Highly recommended.
Lousy and rude – I stopped by to check out some $3k speakers. The salesman was rude and clearly didn't want to spend any time with me. He tried to baffle me with the usual hifi showroom nonsense. I couldn't leave quickly enough. I took my money to Lyric Hifi on the Upper East side, where in a relaxed, non pressured and calm environment, they gladly relived me of it.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors – Sells audio and home theater products from Sony, Bose, Meridian and more.
downhill alert – Had a home theater installation a year ago total was about $15k. I got taken on overcharges for cables and incredibly stupid mistakes they made on the original estimate for installation. Im not sure if the mistakes were intentional, but thats irrelevant. There were obvious omissions and they should have known better. In the past 6 months, I have needed service assistance twice. Forget it, at least from SE. That is, unless youre willing to wait 4 weeks or more for service. Ive been hearing the line, We have a... read more
Great store – I went in and was a bit overwhelmed by the products, but the friendly and very knowledgeable sales staff and custom installation experts put together the perfect home theater for me on a price scale that I was comfortable with.
