We stopped here on a road trip between Des Moines and Omaha. It's open by appointment only, and a quick phone call to one of the numbers on the city hall website got us in touch with Ruby who graciously opened up the museum for us to visit on a Saturday. She provided extra information about the collection which we found very interesting. It's an impressive collection for sure! We enjoyed hearing about how they all were obtained. This collection is incredible. Some specimens are over 100 years old. With that in mind, the condition of the birds are a little rough since I first viewed these in display in the Pottawattamie County Courthouse in the 1980’s. It is free to view the collection. This is a must for anyone who enjoys birds or nature, it’s a gem in a small town. I do hope the town commits to preserving this collection and giving it the proper home it deserves. Truly a world-class collection.
