If I could give this place 0 stars I would but please read this all and second guess about going here....I was in the birchlands program for the 8-12 weeks and I was only allowed to stay for the 8 weeks when I begged and begged to stay for the extra month and so did my mom and worker that got me into the program in the first place because... What an incredible journey it has been. To sit here and find the appropriate words to describe how incredible the program is and how amazing the staff is, can’t be described in words. It’s just impossible. Although we feel such a loss as our son graduated starling program today and we move forward into the real world. We also know the takeaway is so much more. My child was a part of the Birchlands Step up, Step down treatment program and I can't be more thankful. All the staff gave my child a place to be who they are and be accepted. They gave my child the tools they need to manage life and gave them the confidence to push themselves to finish school. Some days were definitely harder than others but with the help of the staff and their teacher, they persevered! I attended Lutherwood for 2 years several years ago. At first I was in the 5 day program I believe was called 'Woodlands'. It was a residence for housing youth under 18 with developmental disabilities. Youth would go home on the weekends but stay during the business days. The program length was a year long and it is safe to say I learned nothing from it. I then attended the 'Steps' program which was just a normal school day with extra support. I was in the woodlands program back in 2011. Two words: The Program… This place caused me the most trauma! The safe never followed through with anything they promised. They use their authority as a weapon against youth. I was told this was a six month program and alternatively, was planned to be there longer by the staff. They never did any good for the youth.
