Statewide Transfer Ambulance & Rescue, or S.T.A.R., was founded by Sam Peck his wife Linda on April 1st, 1982 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. The intent was provide convalescent ambulance transportation for residents of Montgomery County, as no local service existed yet. From its small beginnings, starting with eight crew members and one ambulance, S.T.A.R began to grow.

Their service is fine, but billing and answering their phones is remarkably flawed. Nobody answers the phone or returns calls—ever—regarding billing. I've called 20+ times.
My son was transported 4.6 miles and I was stuck with an $1150 bill because Star Ambulance is out of network with his insurance and refused to file a prior authorization. After being sent on a wild goose chase of filing an appeal, dozens of calls to see who was responsible for the prior authorization, guess what? It was Star Ambulance. They would not risk the balance outside of the discount not being paid so refused to file the prior authorization.
