We stopped by and had a great experience. We stopped by the sanctuary and saw all the birds. They were very beautiful. Our favorite was gauch a very friendly vulture who seemed to love the attention. We the. Hiked to some of the closer landmarks. Egg rock and the queens throne were great places to admire and take some photos. There's a real peace to the trails. We were basically the only ones there. Will come back again to go to some of the other landmarks.
The Stanwood wildlife sanctuary is truly a beautifully preserved piece of natural beauty right in the heart of Ellsworth Maine. I highly recommend bringing your kids here for a leisurely stroll on the trails or enjoying your lunch break in the picnic area. One of the gems of DownEast Maine.

It's a pretty walk in the woods. There are many signs warning that the gates close at 5 pm. This is important because the trail maps are not exactly accurate and you will likely get lost at some point, so leave extra time to find your way back. The AllTrails app and the posted map they encourage you to photograph for reference are both wrong in places.
