The slso put on a performance during their off-season to benefit the St. Louis tornado victims. The draw was BeBe Whinan, who sang 2 songs, one requiring audience participation. Thus, the bulk of the one hour presentation was performed by the orchestra, and the Urban League CEO + Orchestra CEO spoke about 20 minutes, and a poet spoke. So, all in all, we donated by buying tickets at whatever price point you chose and attended a slso concert.
I recently took my two sons and their girlfriends to see Batman with the St. Louis Symphony at the Stifel Theatre, and it was an unforgettable night. It was my first time at Stifel, and the venue itself was stunning—such a great setting for a live orchestral performance. Watching one of my favorite movies with a full symphony performing the score live brought a whole new dimension to the experience. The symphony is wonderful. I will say, the box office has been consistently patronizing and rude, and today was another frustrating example. Non profit classical music admin is filled with failed musicians from state schools and dealing with them in any capacity is exhausting.
