If I could give 0 stars, I would. People need to know what our family experienced here. I do not recommend this shelter for families with children. My husband and I stayed here temporarily with our two young children while trying to get back on our feet. Our 3-year-old daughter has autism, and despite repeatedly asking for permission to lock our family dorm door for her safety, we were denied. Do not call them, the woman who answered was very rude and persistent that they only take st John county residents, which makes no sense because homeless people have no place of permanent residency, it shouldn't matter, this and every other shelter within a 30-50 mile radius are all "filled up" and they take it like a joke
I will never understand why these shelters will not help a human being that did not become homeless in there county. Some communities don't even have shelters or jobs putting people in a transitional situation searching for affordable housing, living wage jobs and resources to get by that doesn't exist or some combination of this. It's ungodly for communities to have this many un-sheltered, homeless and sick people living on the streets and not enough shelter beds or transitional housing for everyone. The soup kitchen, food pantry and clothing hut are all great resources plus the outreach program. The support staff direct the homeless to resources to get them out of their current homelessness.
There was a time when I needed help and there was St. Francis house, Thanks for your goodness!!!
