Enjoyed a great fall weekend family stay at the St. Elmo. Loved the hotel's historic charm and location is ideal for access to shops and restaurants along the main drag in Ouray. Staff was helpful and friendly. Dinner at the attached Tavern was excellent. Will definitely be back.
The tavern is located in the lower level of the hotel and has a laid back, kinda old school vibe. I had great service, good cocktails, and one of the best (Wagyu) burgers.
This review is for the tavern only. While strolling in town, the front door to the old Saint Elmo‘s hotel was open so we went in. In the very small historic lobby, we saw a book with the history of the hotel, along with a menu for the newly reconfigured and professionally staffed restaurant. We give this place 0 if we could. No heat and air. No refrigerator. Windows were all open when we got there in our room with ripped screens blowing in the air. Bugs flying in room from it all being ope. Then the room door doesn't latch so he told us to keep deadbolt locked. Blew off that basic amenities were not provided. We decided since no TV in room to go to the common area to watch to unwind. Well no cable and it is all blamed on previous owners. Then went to use outlet for husband breathing machine and no power. Definitely overpriced for the amenities offered. While understanding it's a boutique hotel experience in a historic building definitely overpriced for the amenities offered. For the cost would expect higher quality bedding, extra pillows, more modern furnishings. Would not recommend for the price. Disappointed.
