St. Boniface Hospital: Emergency Room

I was in Afib in the morning of July 17. My sister drove me to St Boniface emergency. I was triaged immediately and had an EKG and bloodwork done right away. I was given a bed after a wait and saw Dr Buchel who explained my options and recommended shocking my heart. One shock put my heart back into sinus rhythm and I was able to go home. Every person who looked after me was professional, upbeat, unhurried and encouraging. Thank you St. B. staff!

I ONLY go to St. B’s whenever I have my severe allergic reactions. They made the transition from my small town hospital to a big city hospital easy. Staff there are always so kind to me and try their very best. I am a frequent flyer with my allergies and I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else, and I pretty much refuse to go anywhere else. They make my visit feel like home(my old hospital), and nurses and doctors are always so pleasant even when they’ve had long and extremely busy days with not so nice patients. I have had a heart attack. I have always been told if you have symptoms go to st b. On june 3rd at about 10 am I go to triage nurse who saw the picture on my phone I had of my blood pressure 193/103. She proceeded to lecture me for several minutes about how er is not for blood pressure management. I sat there too stunned to speak. My husband interrupted her to let her know that was not my only symptom and that I have had a heart attack. Understaffed. The wait times for patients is long and the staff seem to be near their breaking point. Do better Manitoba!
