The flower shown, is unique to this area & it is called Diogene's Lantern. The Native Americans in the area used it medicinally. It does resemble a cross between an orchid and a narcissus. It likes to grow along shaded waterways , such as creeks & rivers. But I have seen it on open fields as well. It is a very beautiful & striking flower. It blooms from mid- spring to thru the first week of summer.
