Robert Smithson's earthwork Spiral Jetty (1970) is located at Rozel Point peninsula on the northeastern shore of Great Salt Lake. Using over six thousand tons of black basalt rocks and earth from the site, Smithson formed a coil 1,500 feet long and 15 feet wide that winds counterclockwise off the shore into the water.

Get directionsPink lake is directly south of the spiral Jetty. Walk for about a half mile past the spiral, and the Great Salt Lake is pink! It is so beautiful!!! Very very salty, but worth seeing! Make sure to bring water shoes. The salt is quite sharp.
Absolutely breathtaking scenery. The pink waters mixing with the white salts is something rare to see. Beautiful sunset and incredible view of the milky way at night. Lots of little bugs/flies when there is no wind.
I would highly recommend coming at least once. The Spiral was cool to see in person. The pink water will leave you in awe. It was slightly overcast so I think it was more pink than if the sunset had been more visible. It has a smell due to the salt water, but once you are in the water, you don’t smell it. The water is very salty so prepare for your legs to look ashy upon exiting the lake.
