Overrated but still Tasty – - Parking is either street, or in a garage about 2 blocks away. - Reservations are taken, but not granted promptly. - Casual dress ok. - Atmosphere is ok. The light fixtures were dusty! - Staff is pleasant - Seafood & Steak are good, but no better than Anthony's or The Keg. - Slightly higher priced than Anthony's and The Keg, but not really worth the extra money.
No way would I eat dinner here...wouldn't suggest it to a downtown homeless person....(overly patient-rant) – I figured this place as an overpriced medicocre tourist attraction with fancy decor, since it's in the Houston Pavillions (and it is exactly that), but we wanted to check it out anyways since we live a couple of blocks away. 1st stop: stopped for a beer in the bar just to check out the menu. Expensive...no worries...we expected that. The bartender suggested some kinda crab?+cheese dip with "tortilla chips". It sucked... read more
I fell in love with this place again. – All there is to say is Great Seafood! The Stuffed salmon that I had was outstanding. Los, the bartender was great, he introduced me to the chef. This is my new/old favorite place.
Quick decline of quality food.... – My fiancee and I have been to this location 4 times since mid-December. The first time - excellent, second - step down, third - still going down, and fourth - horrible. I have never been to a restaurant that I have noticed such a dramatic decline in a short time frame. I went for a pre-Valentine dinner and made a reservation very early in the week. Our table was horrible; right in the middle of the front of the restaurant. The service was good. The oysters that we have every time we visit ... read more
Horrible customer service..we didnt' even make it to the food! – My first post on Citysearch and my first time to EVER walk out of a restaurant. We made 5:30 reservations for our V-day dinner (on Fri 13th) about a week ago and when we came in, the sloppily dressed hostess looked for our reservations, confused, and told us we needed to wait to be seated. Why would we need to wait if we made reservations? After 15 more minutes, it seemed as though they forgot about us because they seated 5 more couples that just walked through... read more
Best FOOD Happy Hour – This place has the BEST happy hour for food in town. If I remember correctly, drinks are spendy but one can get a 1/2 lb pepperjack burger with fries for around $1.50. All of the choices are fantastic and don't get above a couple dollars. It's busy and fairly difficult to find a table in the bar area.
No Reason To Go Hear – I've been to Jakes a few times now. I have always found the food to be good as well as the service. However, the food, and especially the wine, is very overpriced. In addition, the ambience it poor in most areas of the restaurant. The exception is the bar area, which is cozy. The last time I went I got the feeling that it was an upscale Applybees. With the all the excellent small restaurants in Portland there is no reason to every go to Jakes. Many have better food, most have better ambience, and most ... read more
AMAZING ! – This is the Best restaurant for clams especially, but all seafood. The chefs are amazing and so are the other staff. This is a place where people are treated as family and they always do right by the customer, going out of their way to accommodate special tastes, diets, requests, anything!! Love it!! The review from a "former employee" listed above is clearly an attempt to get back at McCormick's for some reason. My husband and I and friends have eaten here very often over the past 2 years. . The bathroom is spot... read more
best crabcakes & excellent service – We went to Spenger's for my husband's birthday. There were 7 of us. All of the food was great! We are all very picky when it comes to food & service because some of our family members are exquisite cooks & some have been waitresses . Our waiter was fantastic. I had crab & shrimp stuffed salmon.Wow! My sister-in-law has had crab cakes everywhere & she said these are the best.
