I have been with Dr.Spencer for about 5yrs and she has always made me feel comfortable. Finding a psychiatrist that you mesh well with is no easy find,but with Dr.Spencer she makes you feel comfortable, explains what's going on, allows you to talk without making you carry the conversation or make you feel like you are being interviewed, and helps you to get to a better place. Dr. Spencer is a non-typical psychiatrist in that she deals well with the medical things, but also does psychotherapy at the same time. I think her evaluation of patients and discussion often focus on observering things whether just everyday life or more specialized things about your diagnosis. If you want the complete sterile 15min sterile psychiatric appointment, than she won't fit, but if your willing to get to know her over time, you will find a supportive friend and doctor. Dr Spencer prescribed two medications with very dangerous interactions. I was on the meds for over a year before my pharmisist caught it. Dr Spencer seemed to try and pass blame. She even tried to blame my confusion. SHE REFILLED TO RX MULTIPLE TIMES OVER ONE AND 1/2 YEARS. She was very alarmed and had me forgo one way to quickly which led to hellish withdrawl sympoms that really incapasitated me for near one week. I am still recovering. Dr. Spencer is one of the best doctors, she has really helped me through a lot of things. She has helped me to where I am not having panic attacks frequently. Dr. Spencer is always there for me even when it's not office hours.
Would recommend Dr. Spencer because she did a wonderful job of connecting with my depressed and highly paranoid mother, especially after she had been misdiagnosed and overmedicated. Dr. Spencer has set realistic goals, related to her, addressed her fears, and gave her a full explanation of her condition. She delicately handled the issue of medication compliance, and addressed all of my concerns as a caregiver. She takes time to develop trust in the beginning, so that a plan can be established.
She is horribly unprofessional and I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
