We booked a tour at Spencer Opal Mine two months in advance and were told everything opened at 9 a.m. When we arrived, the tour had already left at 8 a.m. No one mentioned this when we made the reservation or when we called. The staff was rude and just told us to “check our email.” If you’re taking people’s money, you should clearly tell them the actual start time at booking. Very disappointing and unprofessional.

It was fun we only did the taillings but found a couple of good opals with a lot of fire. the food was good.

Awesome place, we did the mini mine dig and found some opals with good color and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Opal is my favorite gemstone, so I was super excited to discover this place was only 1.5 hrs away from West Yellowstone where I was staying. Brought my brother and 3 teenagers to mine the tailings pile. Kade was super helpful, explaining what to look for. He even stayed out with us to make sure we were okay and having fun. He turned it into a competition for the teenagers to see who could find 5 opals first in a particular area.
