Opal is my favorite gemstone, so I was super excited to discover this place was only 1.5 hrs away from West Yellowstone where I was staying. Brought my brother and 3 teenagers to mine the tailings pile. Kade was super helpful, explaining what to look for. He even stayed out with us to make sure we were okay and having fun. He turned it into a competition for the teenagers to see who could find 5 opals first in a particular area. What an epic adventure! I’m so happy they opened the real mine for us to enter. The $350 price was very fair as you are allowed to keep a five gallon Bucket with any rocks and opals you fancy. I was so lucky to have Kade help me on several occasions. He is a gazelle and with both hands full of opal laden stone he woukd hike down the treacherous slope just to make sure I was okay and then he gave me all those stones he found while walking around!
