I can safely say that while I went through a lot of judgements and silliness from Spectrum clinicians I never ever experienced - warmth, care, concern or empathy. They are so busy being clinically minded and self-congratulatory and trying to enforce rules and force contracts they intentionally or otherwise recreate high-conflict, high trauma treatments. I was scared there. I felt unsafe.
My experience was negative. I didnt experience trauma-senstive care here. I fell apart while in their care and it was a chaotic, challenging experience. I felt like a problem to be managed and not a person with autonomy. It was infantalising and unempowering being a patient at Spectrum.
My experience with Spectrum was terrible. I was put in a corner and regularly told to either commit completely to the program or leave. Committing meant following a very specific protocol of case management plus no outside therapists. Spectrum do not care how it impacts you or what happens in your case management but require you have it to be a participant. My experience with Spectrum was terrible. I was seeking clarity over my diagnosis and a treatment plan after a traumatic few years. Spectrum treated me "as if" i had BPD without providing a thorough assessment or treatment plan. I was then maligned in other services as a BPD client, however I have no idea what my diagnosis is. I feel so sad and disappointed by my experience with Spectrum which was like being lost in a maze. I was always assertive and tried to be involved in decisions about my care. Spectrum prefer to tell the patient what to do, never checking in or seeking to involve us. Over time this had a significant impact on me and I struggled with independence and communication.
