We’re now in the third week of July ‘25 and, just this month, we’ve experienced 3 power outages. This last one, last night, was almost 4 hours long. A couple of decades ago, Illinois deregulated utilities so as to encourage competition and hopefully allow consumers to find lower rates. I moved to the Maryville/Collinsville area only to find that SWECI had a no-competition advantage; that we were not allowed to use any other utility for our electricity needs.
