Southern Branch Nursery is a true hidden gem and an absolute must-visit for anyone interested in native plants. This veteran woman-owned nursery has an incredible selection, beautifully laid out grounds, and a mission rooted in sustainability and habitat restoration. I contacted Wild Works of Whimsy to solve a few problem areas in my yard. The back and sides were long and narrow and with a slope, and the back was full south facing. I had a difficult time getting anything to live there besides Bermuda grass and I was tired of mowing. The yard was very ugly. Absolutely loved my visit!! So many varieties of native plants and there were Monarch butterflies flitting around! Staff super friendly and knowledgeable. Will be my go-to nursery 🌼
I love this local nursery! I've been making a concerted effort to add more natives in my backyard to support my bird and pollinator communities. They have a great selection and a friendly, helpful staff. I can't wait to see my garden fill out, and I'm anyway planning my next visit for the next section of my garden.
I had a great experience with this local nursery. I needed to plant some trees in my back yard to cover where a pool was filled in. Their website had a list of trees they have available and I was able to use that to see what would work with the type of soil used as backfill and common to Hampton Roads (i.e. Heavy clay). I e-mailed them ahead of time to confirm they had the desired trees in stock and they did. I picked up two trees, a tulip poplar and a sweetbay magnolia.
