I took my vintage Akai reel to reel in for service. After almost a year my Akai was not fixed, and in fact worse off from when I took it in. The side wood panel was damaged, and one of the knobs was damaged. The reel to reel which was functioning, but not 100% now does nothing. The owner told me he is a high volume shop, take that for what it's worth.
