Upon the recomnendation of Mr Van Berg, after I had damaged the opticaI input on my receiver, purchased a coaxial adapter from Sound Science. I am simply astounded by the superior audio quality now coming out of my speakers, owing to that adapter. As I write I am listening to a 192k transfer of a 1959 RCA "Living Stereo" recording of Howard Michell conducting the National Symphony performing Shostakovich's 5th Symphony.
