The Sophian Plaza is a lovely condominium building, of beaux arts design, and elegant proportions throughout -- from the colonnaded front courtyard, to the west-facing marble patio, elegant black and white lobby and working fireplace, and to each apartment -- all with tall ceilings, crown moulding, oversized windows. Really quite lovely. How many buildings are beautiful from all four sides? This one is.
I've owned a condo in this building overlooking the Plaza for two years now. I think it's one of the prettiest residential high rises in town. Harry Sophian, when he came around 1920 from NYC, brought its splendor to KC. This was his second building, the first one still standing on the NE corner of Armour and Gillham. The building has very engaged owners and an excellent management team, which is slowly catching up on years of maintenance backlog.
