My son did 30 days inpatient at ART and then went directly to Sober Living. He is just finishing his 4th month and wants to stay a 5th. ART taught him the sobriety skills he needs and Sober Living goes more in depth and also introduces you to all the different kinds of meeting and encourages you to find a home group and a sponsor. I am currently staying at one of the sober living houses at ART and am really enjoying it. The counsellors are very helpful, caring and down to earth. The comradery with my peers has shown me how to make strong friendships in the recovery community. I appreciate the privacy of my own room as well as the common living space with the housemates. I strongly recommend the ART sober living home my son lived in when he returned to Toronto after residential treatment in BC. The ART councillors were very communicative and helped us navigate transition living. The location was ideal in that he could come home on weekends for short visits. The house is clean and well run.
Spending 4 months at sober living was the best decision I could have made for my recovery journey. Coming here after rehab is a great way to slowly acclimatize back to the real world without the pressure of jumping straight back into life. The day is filled with discussions, in-house meetings and recovery meetings as well as as enough time to myself to complete what I have to get done. This program is a very safe space.
