I visited the Snorting Elk Cellar Bar & Deli last weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) and spent over $200 on margaritas and beer, tipping well over 30%. I was completely polite the entire time, so it was shocking to be told the next day that I would not be served because I “forced a bartender to serve me.” I’m still unsure how anyone “forces” someone to pour margaritas, especially at those prices. On what should have been a very happy occasion, my daughter’s wedding night, we had the unfortunate experience of spending time at the Snorting Elk. I will start with the bartender, Christian. He was by far one of the rudest people I have ever come into contact with in the service industry. None of the staff were particularly friendly, but Christian seemed to go out of his way to be a jerk. We stopped by the Snorting Elk at Crystal Mountain for lunch after snowboarding, and left pretty underwhelmed. We got the prime dip sandwich with chips and the nachos with chorizo — which was the only meat option available. The prime dip was dry and not very flavorful. It came with a side of plain kettle chips — no fries or better side options, which was disappointing. The nachos were okay.
