The Exposed Rack system is awesome! Love it! It’s a quality built, well thought out and engineered design and the installation is easy. The fit and finish is also excellent. The matte black traction coating paint is robust and should adequately protect the steel mounts and crossbars from rust and corrosion and also enables the rack to stealthily blend in well with the black rooftop of our Jeep Wrangler JLU. I first purchased the SMS Exposed roof racks for my Wrangler JLU w/ soft top set up because I wanted a way to carry my kayak with the soft top and was not looking to spend money on a whole exoskeleton set up/lose functionality of the soft top. The install process was easy and it didn't interfere with the function of the soft top at all! When I first purchased the crossbars they only had kayak carrier and the kayak basket wasn't released yet. My yakima j-low kayak carrier didn't fit the SMS bars, but that's yakima's fault. I’m saddened by having to give this bad review. I bought the Rooftop Tent Exposed Racks package for my 4dr Jeep JL. When it was first delivered, one of the parts was faulty and would not fit on the crossbar. I waited about a week to get a replacement part. Then, I noticed after 2 weeks or so of using the product that the bolts that attached the lip to the gutter had rust on them as well as they were not becoming fully tightened on the gutter (every few hours I had to tighten). A week after I emailed customer service with no ... read more
