This was our 8th or 9th time renting from Smoky Mountain Retreats in recent years and were looking forward to trying Sky Cabin. The pluses considering Sky Cabin are location access, cleanliness and coziness. Unfortunately, we found several negatives, particularly around mobility and functionality. The driveway is very flat in comparison to others and there are only two steps to enter the cabin’s main entrance. Once inside, everything is very tight. We have stayed at several cabins with the company, for many years and have never, ever been disappointed until now. We had a cabin in the Laurel Heights area, House of Views. Basic necessities were not available, water pressure was horrible; you could not use anything while you took a shower. Basement smelled very musty and had we had more people with us, I would not recommend them staying in the basement. Outdoor furniture was dirty and had moss growing on them. We stayed only 1 night and lost tons of money on the 4 night minimum stay. You need an all wheel drive vehicle to get to the cabin at Black Bear Ridge!!!! This company needs to disclose this information and make people well aware of the 4-mile dangerous, steep drive to get to this and other cabins, in the middle of the summer!! My Honda Odyssey minivan inched up a hill at one point with the pedal to the floor and in 1st gear. We hardly made it to the cabin, and it was a 15 minute drive up from where the office is located.
