In our experience, SMO’s service was incomplete, inconsistent, and extremely stressful. Over the course of multiple visits between December and January, our oil furnace was repeatedly serviced but not properly diagnosed or corrected. I recently called SMO to repair my oil furnace. It was leaking oil out of the bottom of the oil burner unit on the furnace. I had them come out three different times within a week and they were unable to repair the problem. The technicians seemed to be incompetent and not trained very well. They left with the furnace not being fixed and leaving me with a fire hazard as well. After three attempts I called another company. For furnace service, look elsewhere. Our experience with Southern Maryland Oil’s service department was extremely disappointing. They came out multiple times for an oil furnace issue and failed to identify the root cause, charging us for each visit while the problem worsened. Despite repeated requests for a proper combustion analysis, this was not performed during the first two service calls. Overpriced. They charge almost $5/gallon for oil right now, a full 30% higher then any competition.
