The lack of communication from SmartStop has been shocking. I had to find out second hand via social media that one of the buildings at 550 Swannanoa River Rd is completely gone down to the foundation. Turns out, this location is in a FEMA special flood hazard area which SmartStop failed to disclose. Despite the high flood risk, they decided to have a location there anyways putting the safety and property of staff and customers in harms way.

This company is treating its customers disgracefully in the aftermath of Helene. It has been nearly 2 months and we have not been allowed to access our storage unit housing ALL of our household possessions (we had just moved to NC and all our possessions were still in storage). We have called and emailed multiple times, but only get generic messages and empty promises from the corporation (not the actually location) about how they are working on it and will get back to us soon. The facility at Swannanoa River Rd was destroyed in Hurricane Helene. SmartStop has basically abandoned their customers who had their irreplaceable belongings stored in there. It has been 7 weeks and there have only been a couple of emails providing very little information on what they are doing. Customers are not allowed to go near the facility and we have no idea if anything would have been salvageable or not. They aren't letting me wait to pick up my boxes for a couple weeks, even though my wife is about to have our first child and we are just able to move back into our house. So now I have to figure out how to get a truck and pick up this stuff during all of the rest of the hectic things going on.
