Unbelievable is the word for the Skyline Lodge & Altitudes Restaurant...constructed of Redwood and Granite, begun in 1929 in the Frank Lloyd Wright tradition. Completed in 1965, Skyline offers a magnificent forty mile view and nestled 4,300 feet atop of Flat Mountain overlooking the banks of Big Creek's cascading waterfalls. From the comfortable rooms with balconies and beautiful views to the scrumptious meals at Altitudes , it's definitely a part of Highlands that should be visited and revisited !

We planned a weekend stay at Skyline Lodge for our first visit to Highlands after seeing all the great marketing for this hotel, but unfortunately we had a horrible experience staying here! When we arrived, we were put in room 101. Upon entering the room, we noticed there was a dehumidifier and air purifier both on the highest settings. The dehumidifier read 95% humidity, and as we touched the bed, it felt wet from the insanely high humidity level. This is a beautiful Lodge in Highlands North Carolina. Every room has a private balcony that looks out over the mountains! It's an old motel designed by Frank Lloyd wright. And has a very nice restaurant. It is not fancy but quaint and elegant.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a stylish and peaceful place to stay. Hubbs and I had to cancel at the last minute due to bad weather and the inability to hike with our dog. The management handled our situation wonderfully, and we truly appreciate their efforts. We look forward to booking again in the future.
The staff is very nice.The location is extremely peaceful. Our room had three different machines: air purifier, dehumidifier ( I emptied several times) and an AC that I couldn’t control temperature. They obviously have a moisture problem and the smell was awful. We did not allow my daughter’s 11 month old baby touch the carpet being it was dirty. I have asthma and I ended up coming home sick.
