The Hastings Historical Society recently welcomed Tom Plue to give a presentation to our members and guests. Tom shared a number of interesting exhibits and stories about projects completed by the Sky-High Restoration team. We enjoyed a hands-on collection of various eras of brick construction, learning that older ones really were made better. He shared a display of the various wood species used and why he chooses them. We regret very much having retained Mr. Plue for our Victorian home restoration project. We cannot stress enough how much we felt taken advantage of by him. We urge caution when entering into ‘estimates’ with this contractor.

If you have a municipal or provincial project with a huge budget comprised of tax dollars, I’m sure Tom is the man for the job. If you have a residential project, be prepared to be quoted 5 times the realistic price of a project. Having received 3 other estimates from qualified restoration masons, we have a realistic range of what our project will cost but Tom all but laughed, speculating it would take 5 times that to complete before walking away.
