If you drive a high mileage vehicle and you think it is bad, start looking for a replacement right away from a different shop. $4500 to replace a transmission (as we were initially quoted) for a 2003 Ford Explorer for with a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty (not a good warranty) should be doable (their estimate of $5,622 would work out to 23 cents a mile) .
