BEWARE of SHWINCO WINDOWS My expensive hurricane-resistant Shwinco sliding glass door fogged up — a textbook seal failure. Classic manufacturing defect. Shwinco confirmed it was covered under warranty. Great, right? A crew came out, replaced the defective pane. But then the bill arrived: $325 — for labor: Schwinco had left their distributor/installers holding the bag!! Obscured Windows Be Careful The obscured impact windows lack Low-E coating, are not energy efficient, and have poor performance ratings. One of mine faces west, and by 4 PM, the surface temperature reaches 112°F—making my bathroom feel like a sauna. I have photos to document it. That said, Schwinco really came through. They replaced one of the large picture windows in my bathroom with a custom-made, high-performance window—at no extra cost to me. Warranty with the windows is a not good. I did a remodel for a customer and recommended their product over a andersen product. Big mistake. Leaking windows caused me to think it was an install error. Spent lots of time and money only to figure out it was a sealant issue in the window itself. The Answer to fix it was spread silicone on the outside. Stick to manufacturers that stand by their product. Fool me once!
