Beautiful place and especially loved walking the grounds, especially the dove house.
The house, buildings and grounds are beautiful, the house tour was very informative, and it's so interesting to hear about 12 generations of a family living in the same place. If you go, you may hear that they owned a Peale portrait of George Washington after the Battle of Princeton. That portrait was eventually purchased by John D. Rockefeller and can now be seen in Williamsburg at the Dewitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum.
I enjoyed the Big House tour and all he history Shirley holds. I have relatives who at one time in history is listed as living at Shirley Hundred. How amazing this that. I was so very impressed with all the buildings and their preservation. What a grande time!
