Long wait times, never seemed to recall my medical history, lost tests that were done at the same facility, didn't explain things very well, never even offered a treatment plan other than immediately suggesting surgery. Wouldn't recommend under any circumstances.
I thank Dr. Shields everyday as I am now able to walk without pain. Prior to having a total right hip replacement I could barely walk a 1/2 mile. Now I walk 1-3 1/2 miles 5 days a week. Dr Shields patiently answered my questions, gave me the facts and let me make the decision.
I give this Doctor a big fat zero for Star's . The reasons being ; when he replaced my knee he severed my Syatic nerve and my Saferas nerve , he also nicked my artery . I was internally bleeding for 3 days and my Pain Mang. Doctor discovered the internal bleeding. I had to be rushed in an ambulance from Kenmore Mercy to Sisters Hospital to get the artery repaired.

Very knowledgeable about all aspects of knee replacement and recovery. Patient with questions. Has good sense of humor.
Wonderful patient caring physician
Unfortunately, I did not have a positive experience with Dr. Shields. I don't know if he was having a bad day or not but he came across as gruff and uncaring. He did not look me in the eye or try to engage or establish any kind of rapport. He was almost dismissive. I'm African American and would hate to think that had something to do with it. Nevertheless, I did not feel comfortable with him and decided to look further.

Dr Shields is an outstanding physician. I highly recommend him to my friends and family. His manner is professional yet friendly. His staff is great!
