There were about 10 of us at a family cabin near Hazelton, Wy. Each summer we take our machines (4-wheelers, side by sides and dirt bikes) out every day we are there (usually about a week) to discover something different. We decided on Sheep Mountain Lookout which I understand is an old lookout for fires . The trail up there was great, and when you get to the top IT IS AMAZING! If you're driving the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway, make time to stop at Sheep Mountain Fire Lookout. Perched high above the Big Horn Mountains, this historic lookout offers incredible panoramic views that seem to stretch forever across Wyoming's forests, mountains, and valleys. The last mile in was a bit precarious but worth the trip
Such a beautiful place to stay for a couple nights! It was even fun to hang out inside while the thunder and lightning rolled through! It's minimalist which is great! Remember to bring your own cooking kit and cooler. Be prepared for other folks visiting to see the views. There is no gate or anything at the bottom of the stairs so one or two folks may wander up.
