Best in town! – Not only does Shalimar have the best Indian food in town, it is the best delivery, eat-in and ethnic "comfort food" rolled into one! The food is always fresh and piping hot. The Tikka Masala is excellent. At the end of the meal, enjoy a cup of chai. This reviewer never even liked chai until tasting Shalimar's wonderful blend. The staff is FANTASTIC! Everyone is kind and helpful. Sadly, we are moving from Nashville soon and I honestly don't know what I'll do without my weekly dose of Shalimar!!
Excellent! – I took my husband here for his birthday on February 8, 2008. It was his first time ever having real Indian food, and my second. The food was excellent! We both got something completely different, and made sure to try some appetizers, dessert, and Indian tea as well. We left very satisfied and excited that we found a new place to dine! Beware of the spicy-ness though! My husband thought he would try the HOT level because it couldnt be "that bad." He sure was eating his words! He still ate it all. I got my food on... read more
I THINK I'M GONNA DIE – This place was the worst indian food i have ever eaten in my life. We went to this restaurant with hopes of finding a new place for resonably good indian food. We did not have high expectations, never the less, Shalimar managed to dissapoint us. We ordered a curry dish and a chicken tikka (supposedly they have a tandoori oven). Both were extemely overcooked, and we suspect dipped from the same vat of greasy boiling water. The chicken tikka had an extra helping of luke warm grease, despite which the chi... read more
My seemingly never-ending search for a good Indian restaurant in Nashville since leaving the UK brought me to this little goldmine! This restaurant charges a fortune for a sparse menu which doesn't even beat other cheaper establishments for quality and taste. A total con! For example - my husband and I went to Shalimar thinking it would be a treat, as it charges so much more we thought it meant it would be better! WRONG! It simply charged around $16 - $18 for dishes which we have eaten for $9 - $11 at the Best of Indian Cuis... read more
FAVORITE Indian Restaurant in Nashville! – I LOVE Shalimar! It is consistently wonderful every time I go. It's been a personal favorite for years. The food is delicious and the atmoasphere is quiet and unassuming, even though a little bit cramped. The only change I would like to see is Shalimar finally serving wine and beer, if not a full bar.
I got served old Indian bread.. – I was there with my friend for lunch recently, I ordered the Indian bread(Naan) and vegetable curry, the Indian bread was brittle, Indian bread never becomes brittle unless reheated several times, I suspected it not being fresh and questioned the owner, he ignored and said People here like Brittle bread, that was big joke, rather he could have got some fresh ones .. Nashville has very few good choices of Indian food, Now Shalimar adds to list of Worst indian restaurants following Cusine of I... read more
Sitar employees sabotaging Shalimar reviews - Shalimar is THE best Indian restuarant around – I have received information that Sitar employees have been going around to different review sites and giving their competitors, especially Shalimar, horrible reviews. I personally know the owner of Shalimar and I can tell you the ingredients come from the best places, such as Indian import stores and fresh produce markets. The price is high because the ingredients aren't processed and the meat comes in fresh every day. It costs a lo... read more
Authentic atmosphere and enjoyable food – In the several times that I've been to this restaurant I've enjoyed each one. The service is efficient and the food is delicious. I find that the meals are more bountiful than those at other Indian restaurants in town. I'd like to add that if someone is going to write a review of a restaurant, it should be done in a mature manner. The bad ratings I've seen are titled with childish comments. Of course people are entitled to their opinion and I absolutely respect that, but when display... read more
please don't go to this place ! – I read some reviews on this site and thought of trying this restaurant. The day was good until we arrived at this restaurant. I was with some of my university friends. We had the noon buffet. I really wonder how come this restaurant has been rated the best. The quality of food was very bad. The interior was also ugly and didn't appeal me to come here next time. The staff was good but I think they don't clean the interior nicely. There was a kind of smell which gave me a headache, and after h... read more
