Absolutely everything we tried was delicious. Started with chicken fried oysters (wow), fried green tomatoes and yellow squash bisque. Salmon, flounder (wow), swordfish (wow) and branzino. And we saved the best for last... peach & blueberry cobbler & espresso creme brulee *chefs kiss* Service was top tier as well. Couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate 30 years of friendship over a fantastic meal!
TL;DR: If you want to feel like a problem child or the odd person out because of a dietary restriction, Shagbark is the place for you. Even after confirming in advance that they could accommodate me, it was one of the most ostracizing dinners I’ve ever had. I had an awful experience at Shagbark and feel the need to warn others, especially anyone with a dietary restriction. Shagbark’s food is very good with detail to taste and texture, the food takes a little longer wait than usual but it is completely worth the wait! The servers are very friendly and the atmosphere is very nice. One detail that made the experience even better was the water that did not taste like tap but filtered and fresh.
Service and staff were great but food was awful considering they charged $49 for a duck breast which mom couldn’t eat because it smelled so gamey. The red rice served with the duck breast was lacking salt and flavor. I took the flounder and it was dry. The fish wasn’t marinated long enough, that’s why its inside was completely flavorless and overcooked. Not expected from a restaurant where I spent $177 for two people.
Shagbark has a 4.6 star rating with 818 reviews.
