Built in 1863, at the end of the Civil War, the school was one of the first schools in the Midwest with a second story. The place still boasts a home-spun appeal, from the goats and geese roaming around out back to the family-style dining: the menu, like the rest of the place, relies heavily on simple, all-American charms. Traditional entrees like fried chicken, roast beef, meatloaf and baked cod are accompanied by balanced-meal choices like fluffy mashed potatoes, vegetables, freshly made salads, and corn bread served famil... read more

This is the most friendliest restaurant and the best food you will ever find this side of Cincinnati. The best fried chicken you can eat and if anyone complains about the food they don't know what good food is. My husband and I along with friends come to the school restaurant as much as we can and have never had bad food it is always delicious and the waitress's have always been very gracious. Thank you Eve
The Schoolhouse - A 50 year proud institution. – FYI...the previous 2 comments were left by former employees (or firends of) who were unhappy with our new kitchen manager's attendance and hiring policies. If there are any questions or concerns, please call the restaurant and talk to one of the owners. If you have any concerns, we invite you to review our execellent inspection reports at the Hamilton County Public Health web site. We are a very proud small family owned restaurant serving Good Food for 50 years. We would like ... read more
What are people thinking? – I have been going to the School House for years and I have always had a great time there! I met Chris and the rest of the crew when my husband took me there on a date. They are really good people, but if you have ever been to the School House on Mother's Day or believe it or not Thanksgiving Day you would understand how the team has to keep people moving in and out of the dinning area. It is a small place, but if family style dinning is what you want then it will not get better then here. My hat i... read more
Not a great experience – I really wanted to like this restaurant because of the good reviews. However, our experience was very mixed. The salad was great, the corn fritters are amazing. The rest of the food not so much. We ordered the fried chicken and a special of baked chicken with alfredo pasta. Both meals were barely warm. The chicken with the pasta was dry and almost cold in the center. The fried chicken clearly sat around after being cooked. Not what I call great for two meals costing $15 each. In addition, we were pra... read more
Pass the chicken – We LOVE this place. I cannot understand the first review. I don't think I have ever had better fried chicken. The baby beef liver & onions, to die for. My wife will tell you she doesn't like cole slaw, but when we go to The Schoolhouse, sometimes she will eat 3 helpings of slaw. You have never had stewed tomatoes until you've had them at The Schoolhouse. The restaurant itself is so quaint. The prices, quite reasonable. PS, try the corn fritters! Yummy.
Are You Kidding? – I and 11 others visited the Schoolhouse Restaurant this evening (my first time) and I have heard from local Fodder and online reviews alike that this place was the best in town for Fried Chicken and "good 'ol down home cookin"....well my question is this. What town? I would very much like to visit the kitchen as I have serious doubts as to whether the chicken is breaded there, or pre-prepared and then just fried there. The chicken was dry, and at that price for 7 pieces of chicken makes KFC look like a gre... read more
Diners learn a thing or two about home-cooking at this all-American restaurant. – In Short Built in 1863, this building housed the first school in the Midwest with a second story. Best Fried Chicken! – I think that this restaurant is wonderful! The fried chicken is really tastey and tastes just like home. It's only an old one room school house so it is really small. The servers can give you a family meal and you will get mashed potatoes, salad, cole slaw, applesauce, and cornbread. My personal favorite is the homemade applesauce! They also have a farm in the back, with some farm animals you can feed. Great for kids!
