I have worked in several nurseries for years and growing plants in the ground and on shelves know a nursery is No place for a dog. Smelters seem to take pride in the quality of their plants and it shows, yet they try to keep it affordable. A plant lover's paradise. I will continue to go back. It is so homey. I would love to work at a place like this!

Lancaster's best kept secret! Ernie the owner is amazing, and is simply a very kind man. His personalty and his employees' is great, they have helped my family and our local business out for years, and that is why we will continue to do so for many more. As for the dog incident, now five years ago, yet still up here; I'm absolutely sure there is more to this story from both sides as Ernie is also a very soft spoken, down to earth (Litterally as he's in the potted plant business!) non confrontational man.

Best flowers in town! My family has shopped here for as long as I can remember. My father, myself & now my children shop here. Very affordable and my garden looks amazing every year. They are always helpful and very knowledgable. Would highly recommend.

I don't want to trip over your dog, so carry it or leave it at home. If three of the employees were friendly, then that speaks for itself. The owner had every right to tell you to pick it up. He has to lookout for the other customers.

I have not been to this greenhouse yet, but feel the need to respond to the insensitive dog owner who gave such a negative review. Just because you have a passion for dogs and feel the need to take yours wherever you go does not mean the rest of the world shares that passion. When you walk into a business--ANY business-- you must remember that you are sharing that space with other human beings, many of whom have varying degrees of pet allergies/phobias. I have shopped at Schmeizer's Greenhouse for many years. They are friendly and helpful. As for the lady who thought they were rude for not wanting her dog let down in the greenhouse, I think it was very rude of her to do so. Everybody has their limits. Schmelzer's is a family establishment and they have many faithful customers. I look forward to going there every spring.

Today I went to purchase landscaping at this business with my husband and 9lb Shih Tzu pup. I carried him in and spoke to 3 of the employee's who loved the dog. As I carried him looking at plants I found items which I wanted to buy and I had to put him down (on a leash) to pick the plants out. Owner Ernie Schmelzer approached me and in a rude and unfriendly tone told me to pick the dog up or leave. I left.
