Get a new intimate location!....for starters – I couldn't agree more with the 7/11/10 review by Fine DinerOne Liner! Sato Sushi went downhill ever since they left the space where Cafe 163 is presently. Yes, you use to have to wait to be seated in the old location but you felt lucky once you got seated and the sushi was always so top notch. The music and atmosphere just came alive in the old location and for reasons I can't understand, the new Sato just can't replicate the quality of sushi it once had.
Sato Sushi... just say NO!!! – The sushi was pretty good. The service was slow. BUT when the waitress accidentally spilled scalding hot sake on my 11 year old daughter... the manager AND the owner were extremely rude. They never apologized, just said "accidents happen"... my advice is do not dine here ever. When my husband confronted the owver about the incident, the owner went on to tell us he would comp our meal but to never come back and to go back to the trailer that we came from. THE abosolute most unprofessional group ... read more
Go for the sushi, not the service – Recommend the shrimp appetizer and edamame. Service needs a serious revamp, at all levels. Remember the customer is always right rule of thumb?! Staff drinking at bar while we're waiting to order more food!? I appreciate a laid back environment, but come on...service, service, service!
Not What It Used To Be – I am a picky sushi eater who has long been Sato's hugest fan. Since the location change however, both the quality of the food and the service has deteriorated. This past week, I had to send the plate back because the Sushi Chef thought it novel to leave the skin on the sushi. Not at those prices... I can have better a whole lot cheaper in Avon.
Great Place – This place is great. I travel all over and always seem to end up in the sushi places, Sato is one of the best, I eat there more than once every time I am in Vail. The appetizers are great, specifically the mussels and the tuna sashimi salad. You simply can not beat the sushi except in Japan. It is a fairly small place and also very popular so some not so nice people get angry when they have to wait, but the staff is always nice and they get everybody in asap. Very much the best restaurant in the Vail area.
I love Sushi – The sushi at Sato is amazing, I have been eating there for years, and have never had a bad experience. to the person above talking about "inept American trained Caucasian" you don't even understand how to form a complete thought without messing it up the word before inept should be (an) not "in", and Caucasian has a capital C. You are stupid stop hating on the best sushi in the Vail Valley. If Sato disappears what are we left with the stuff at Masatos and that disgusting stuff from Vail. Satos is the best in t... read more
Never Again – The food was inedible, beginning with the most simple of items such as edamame and miso soup. Until tonight I thought that miso soup and edamame were idiot proof ( boy was I wrong). Even after the edamame was served cold and asking the waitress to heat them up they were returned to the table luke warm at best. We should have cut our losses when we realized this place couldnt even steam edamame competently but we stayed and ordered lettuce wraps, spicy tuna hand rolls, and a dragon roll which were all terrible. ... read more
Tough Critic – Here's the sad news...Sato's is slipping. We've been eating here for 3 years and the last few visits have been disappointing. The problem is the original (owner) Sushi Chef is hardly there anymore leaving the highly skilled trade to in inept American trained caucasian. Delivery of food is painfully slow and presentation has become poor. Yes, it is a noisy place, but we always felt that negative was outweighed by the food. Not anymore.
Great Sushi in the mountains When thinking about where to go for good sushi, one probably wouldn't think of Vail (or the area), but this is one great sushi restaurant. We seem to have ordered one of everything when I went with a group of friends, and we ate everything in sight. Great atmoshpere , friendly knowledgable waitstaff add to this highly recommended restaurant.
