This is a really cool museum about the history of the Homestake mine but also the local community and a lot of people that formed things that are still in use and expanded today.
This is a must stop if you're interested in the history of the Black Hills gold mining industry. Homestake mine was one of the most abundant mines in the world. It was literally the motherload. It's now being used by Stanford Laboratories to explore black matter and neutrinos. We were surprised at how deep the mine shafts went and the network of how they all connected. Plan on about a half hour here. They accept donations rather than charging an admission.
Fascinating place even more so due to the excellent information made available by the employee at the desk, Emily. Very professional and knowledgeable. So glad I made the stop.
It was informative staff helpful. Lots to learn about. I recommend if anyone in lead of they visit.
