My time at sandstone was 99% positive. The nurses, therapists, and social workers were absolutely phenomenal. They could not have been more friendly, understanding, and helpful - all except one. I did not have Kenyetta as my individual therapist and only had one interaction with her while I was being discharged, during which she was excessively confrontational and hostile. I checked in for detox, and felt taken care of. I left after like five days because of personal family issues... BIG PLUSES: You are allowed to keep your phone and computer, though they did take my Nintendo Switch lol. But this was very important to me. My friends are a very strong support system for me, they are aware of my issues, and were all very supportive so being able to talk to them, feeling a thread of connection to the outside to the outside world, meant a lot to me. There are some seriously questionable practices about this facility. Overall, the staff are great. However, the grounds are abysmal. Table umbrellas all broken, old weird toys in the back outdoor area. Mud after rains was slick and several patients almost fell, which is obvious if they do and injure themselves, can easily sue the facility. Zero opportunities to exercise, which is hypocritical of encouraging healthy habits such as exercise. I never thought I’d be able to say something like this but Sandstone Care Detox Center SAVED MY LIFE. I have been to a lot of rehab facilities. All of them always felt like I was just an addict in and addict out. A number really. Sandstone, however, was the experience I needed this time to truly make the change. Sandstone is a remarkable place, especially for those looking for a science-based, professional, CBT-oriented environment and for those who have relapsed. Its staff members are extremely respectful and helpful, and the facility cultivates an environment in which clients (patients) trust, respect, and understand each other. The facility allows you to stay connected to the outside world when not in group therapy, and for those who do smoke (tobacco), the smoke breaks are probably perfectly adequate.
