The location on Golden Lake is wonderful. The beach is fantastic and a great place to swim or paddle. If you have a second- or third-floor room, you have a great view of the lake. Nicole provided exceptional service, and the rooms are clean and simple, which is nice. We also appreciated being able to rent a canoe for a reasonable price. For years, this lakeside resort has been our summer tradition—a place our kids eagerly anticipate. The views of the lake are stunning, and the beach-level rooms offer seamless access to the grassy area and sandy shore. The shallow water near the shore is ideal for young children to play safely. We originally booked a room at The Sands for 10 nights. Later, we found a dog-friendly place where we could stay with our pet, but we still wanted to keep part of our booking so our family could use the room. We changed the reservation to 3 nights and emailed The Sands months before our trip to explain the situation and ask if it would be okay for our family to stay there under our booking. Stayed at Sands 2 nights, with my family. Awesome location, beautiful lake and views. The room was disappointing: smelly bathroom and dirty sink, humidity stains in the ceiling, no window screen (lots of mosquitos came in), coffee maker with water deposits, dirty armchairs (the cushion covers are washable), dehumidifier not working, etc. As for the restaurant: the worst fries and fish ever, soaked in what seemed to be very old oil. On the positive side, the waitress did her best and the view was beautiful.
