I've spent more time than I'd like in hospitals recently, but I'd have to say my experience in the ER this past Monday (4.13.26) was one of the most pleasant, under the circumstances. From the time I walked in, the two security guards were welcoming and helpful. The triage nurses were so kind and patient with me. My nurse, Elise, was friendly, thorough, and informative. I don’t have money for food. I am homeless. I walked to the ER because I thought I had pneumonia. I told them my financial situation. Before sending me to a doctor, they gave me X-Rays that are $1,800. After that, a doctor saw me for 5 seconds and told me I likely have some viral infection. I then receive a voicemail saying I told them I have insurance. No I didn’t. Why did they give me the most expensive X-Rays they could find? I don’t have money for food.
