Me and my friend go in there frequently because we change our hair all the time, the lady with the long colorful hair is super nice and sweet and helpful! However, I think it’s the manager she’s an older lady and she’s extremely judgmental and always stalks us walking around just trying to grab dye, gloves and color removing wipes. We turn, she’s there watching over our shoulders. I understand customer service but this is making the experience awkward and uncomfortable and like we were thieves.

It’s deeply disappointing to walk into a beauty supply store—especially one that caters to a diverse clientele—nearly 10 months pregnant and be completely ignored, while watching the sole staff member greet every other white customer around me. Hair care is a universal and culturally significant experience, especially for women of color, and it’s critical that staff treat all customers with dignity and respect.
