We arrived at 6:30pmand didn’t leave the restaurant until 10:15pm. This is a restaurant that has amazing food, but desperately in need of a reservation system; the space doesn’t support standing around and waiting. The hostess was loud and rude, at times even grabbing my arm to direct me somewhere to stand (there is so little space, and you have to either stand in front of bathrooms or in front of their kitchen, which they aren’t happy about either). You truly cannot go wrong at Rootstock. I’ve never had a single item on their ever-rotating menu that wasn’t incredible. You can always count on their service, food, and wine to be absolutely on point. Whether dining solo at the bar, out with friends, or on a date - it’s the perfect spot for a cozy dinner.
They need to put a reservation system in place. In this day and age, and when your establishment clearly needs one, not having one is a disservice to customers.
Going on my list of favorites and top recommendations in Chicago! Absolutely wowed by all the food, especially the Norwegian Cod which was perfection. The wine selection is huge & fantastic and there is a book going over descriptions for each one that sounds like it was written by a poet. Made it easy for us to select ones we were interested in and we enjoyed every one!
