Rockwood is a unique and historic resort on the Gunflint Trail on the Eastern half of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Located on the 31st mile of the 57 mile long Gunflint Trail, we actually have a section of the original gravel trail that goes through our resort! Even the Lodge (built between 1926 and 1932) is an original building, hand crafted from native Pine with a large meeting room and gift shop next to the front counter. These guys were fantastic! Stopped by for a hike nearby and they offered some parking spots and pointed us the right way. They also had the isobutane I needed! I think we'll have to stop by and stay there next time!
We rented 2 canoes for a day trip in the BWCA. We are a first timer and the people there were really supportive. They showed us the basic canoe maneuver and how to portage. They carried the canoes to the entry point in the west of the bearskin lake and we just left it there after we finished. They also gave us a map and a first air kit for rent free of charge! Highly recommended! Thanks Carl & Mike!
These folks saved us with their EV charger. We missed the Tofte charger, and Grand Marais charger was broken, so we were in a tough spot. Not only did they allow us to use their charger, they didn't charge us. We spent 4 delightful hours at this beautiful resort biking and canoeing. Both Carl and the other guy (forgot name) were helpful and friendly. Popular Lake was beautiful, and the lodge looked cool, and the outfitting cabin was great. We didn't stay in their cabins, so can't comment on that.
We rented the bunk room and got showers after we got back from our BWCA trip. Great folks. Very helpful and accommodating.
