About this business
The R&GN is a 15 inch gauge steam train railway and living history museum. The railway's tracks are laid on an 1857 railroad right-of-way that goes through Wisconsin Dells scenic rock cuts, woods, and valleys - at one point crossing over the world's largest 15 inch gauge railway bridge. The Sandley Light Railway Equipment Works manufactured 1/4 scale trains in the shops at the R&GN from 1953 until 1980. In 1989 the R&GN Preservation Society was founded to operate the railway and teach about steam train railway history.

If you like scenic miniature train rides this one is a must. Large parking lot, gift shop, and picnic pavilion on-site. Features a 4-4-2 steam and diesel electric locomotives. The cars are small, are covered, and each unit can accommodate 4 average sized people. Train ride runs several miles with interesting geology and nature along the route.
Great experience. The kids love the train ride and the volunteers were great at explaining and interacting with them!
just perfect for little kids
This is pretty much a kiddy ride. They call it a 3 mile ride when in reality it is a 1.5 mile ride where they disconnect the engine and move it to the back of the train to pull you down the 1.5 mile track a second time. No guide pointing out things to see, just a slow ride on a tiny train.
