This is a sadly declining cabin in a beautiful area. I have stayed in 20 different forest service cabins throughout Montana (including this one) before and not had to deal with pack rats. The forest service is aware of the pack rats and even provides a trap and instructions on how to trap them. Mice are common in the other cabins but are easier to trap and don't have the awful odor of a pack rat.
Amazing place to send a relaxing time away.
The cabin is near a highway which is convenient even if some noise. The creek and area around the cabin is pleasant. This is a great place for time together or meditation. We hung hammocks near the creek. The picnic table was often sunny. The creek was cool for contrast.
Rillway is rustic, no power or water, but it is comfortable, accessible right off the highway, has an outhouse, and is supplied with firewood. It is nestled right off Deep Creek.
This is a very nice, comfortable cabin with an efficient free standing wood stove. We liked that during May 8-10 when the weather consisted of light cold rain, small snowflakes (almost like sleet) and graupel (small snow pellets) for both days. The cabin has several games and a few magazines which helped pass the time. Perhaps bring a book to read. The location is very good.
