Went to Chez Jean-Paul with a few friends last Thursday and honestly it exceeded every expectation. The duck confit was perfectly crispy on the outside, tender all the way through, and the cherry reduction on top was inspired. Our server Antoine was attentive without hovering, which is a balance a lot of places in the city just can't seem to get right. If you haven't been, clear your schedule for the night because you won't want to rush this one.

Stumbled onto Chez Jean-Paul a couple weekends ago and honestly it's been on my mind ever since. The duck confit was perfectly crispy on the outside and just fell apart, exactly what you want on a rainy Saturday evening in Montreal. Our server was super attentive without being overbearing, which is a hard balance to actually get right. Definitely adding this to my regular rotation whenever I need somewhere that feels like a proper night out.
Very confusing and cold experience with inattentive service and lack of conviviality. The restaurant was mostly empty with 3 other tables at 8:30 on a Saturday. We had 3 different servers and they added and re-arranged clean plates randomly at times. “À la carte” was misleading as you needed to order in pairs — something that was not well explained in written or verbal form.
