I have used the Palomar Transfer Station for 40 years, so I feel I can speak with some authority. Since Republic took over, it’s not as well run. Instead of angling 5-6 trucks into each bay, they allow only 1 or 2. So even without a long approach line, it slows to a crawl. In addition, much of the volume is Republic trucks, even during peak retail hours. They seem to get priority and take up a whole bay as well. The people are nice, it’s just poorly managed. Bottom line: budget plenty of time.
Its very expensive now it almost doubled the price since I've been there.
Upon arrival with a trailer filled with household waste, I was told that on self dump tralors, or waste on the back of a truck can be accepted. I recommended to travel to Fallbrook or Escondido. It had something to do with safety, a trailor is unloaded the same as waste on the back of a truck. It's crazy!
They were very friendly and gave me great directions.Since this was my first time there. But helpful and it all went pretty fast even though it was very busy
