I have used the Palomar Transfer Station for 40 years, so I feel I can speak with some authority. Since Republic took over, it’s not as well run. Instead of angling 5-6 trucks into each bay, they allow only 1 or 2. So even without a long approach line, it slows to a crawl. In addition, much of the volume is Republic trucks, even during peak retail hours. They seem to get priority and take up a whole bay as well. The people are nice, it’s just poorly managed. Bottom line: budget plenty of time.
Its very expensive now it almost doubled the price since I've been there.
Upon arrival with a trailer filled with household waste, I was told that on self dump tralors, or waste on the back of a truck can be accepted. I recommended to travel to Fallbrook or Escondido. It had something to do with safety, a trailor is unloaded the same as waste on the back of a truck. It's crazy!
They were very friendly and gave me great directions.Since this was my first time there. But helpful and it all went pretty fast even though it was very busy
Ive used this Transfer site a few times and know its pretty busy on weekdays. Today 8/10/2025 at about 3pm my son and I took a small load in a garden trailer ( about the size of a pickup bed). The young lady at the scale took my card info to pay the fee, no problems so far. The guy directing traffic to dump pointed us to a spot then said we couldn't dump there because our trailer wasn't a dump trailer. Again its the size of a truck bed.
