As a project this year, I was looking to upgrade my 8 yr. old panels and go to a battery backup system. I did have a stand-by generator/propane system. Never liking that setup I opted for new/additional panels feeding Franklin WH batteries. Since I was also installing a new roof, the old panels would also need to be removed and recycled.
